Braces Diary 1

Okay I probably should have started this diary from the actual first steps to braces, but I didn't think of it then so never mind.

So brief recap:

Consultation, Separators (which are rubber bands places between the teeth that are going to have the metal brackets to make space), Brackets, Extractions (of both lower wisdom teeth, upper and lower left first premolars, lower first right premolar and upper second right premolar), Removal of Stitches (for wisdom teeth), Bonding and Braces. The photos of the extracted teeth are on Instagram, but I got feedback that it was too gross so I shall have to redeem myself. And post here instead.

16th May 2016 - Day 1:
So #8 rubber bands which are a sky blue. Lip retainer (something like that) to hold the lips back. Semi-permanent bond. Placement of metal wire and springs. Then the blue bands go on.

When to work after that. Can speak and all was well until lunchtime. During which I was shown no mercy by the Auntie buying lunch for me. I asked for porridge and she gave me the worst possible post-braces food. Cauliflower and sweet and sour pork. Thank God mixed rice stalls don't serve cauliflower the way my mum does (rawish and hard) if not I would have really suffered. Only after lunch did I really start to feel the pain. And the "problematic" crooked teeth we're actually not the ones giving problems, but my two front teeth. Right now all I want (for early Christmas) is for my two front teeth not to hurt so much because I don't see why it should hurt more than the crooked ones.

And also in the way home in the rain, I was savagely splashed by a car whilst walking along the road. I think maybe the driver should retake his BTT because it is mentioned there that drivers should drive slowly over puddles and avoid splashing other vehicles and pedestrians. Tsk.

Anyway, dinner wasn't much better and I pretty much had to swallow leafy veg without chewing (because my front teeth would press against the lower teeth and hurt) and gently chew the harder stems with my left molars. For which I am very grateful does not hurt.

I think perhaps my braces years will be a time of unintentional purposeful dieting. Which is good because I'm not getting any younger and after a few more years whatever fat I have will more or less become permanent fat. And my current state is not ideal. Losing 3-5 would perhaps be good as I am just slightly over the perfect BMI.

My teeth are still hurting to high heavens and also I don't know how I'm going to be able to eat tomorrow's Teacher's Dinner. (It's technically more of a compulsory staff dinner.)

Drowning in work. Like I'm leaving in two weeks and I've never had more work. OMG people stop already.
